Fred Makler

I taught Spanish at McCluer High School in Florissant for 28 years and retired in 1991.  My retirement was made all the sweeter by the fantastic party that was given to me and other retirees from that year.  I still have the red satin McCluer jacket that was my gift.

After retiring, I went on to teach Spanish at the university level for many years.  During this time I also took numerous trips to Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Venezuela.  In June of 2000, my wife Linda, and I visited Cuba for the first time on a special grant for teachers called Cuba for Educators.  I have also worked as a translator assisting couples wishing to adopt children from Latin America.  I have been a student, tour guide, and interpreter and am equally conversant in Spanish and English.  Some of my passions and hobbies include cruising, ballroom dancing, travelling, movies, and live theatre.  I have taken numerous cruises, at last count -102, both as a Dance Ambassador and as a passenger.

My wife Linda and I have been married 57 years and are the proud parents of three children and four grandchildren.
